A Walk In The Turkey Woods‚ is a collection of personal reflections, epiphanies, and revelations gained from countless days roaming the great forests of North America. Captured within this volume of work are short stories, poems, a turkey hunter’s prayer, reverso poetry, and passages deeply profound and personal to the author. This body of work is inspired by the perspective that comes with so much time spent in the grand turkey woods, and from the enjoyment of all Gods creatures within these great forests. To those that passionately engage in the time honored and most natural pursuits, it is all too well known that the acts of

downing quarry is a miniscule portion of what truly transpires and what lies within the heart, mind and soul of a hunter. What a hunter experiences and holds dear to their hearts is entirely foreign to those that do not hunt. As visitors, as voyeurs of wondrous places we feel at home and fully immersed in all that it is. The passages within these pages convey what is well beyond the mechanics of strategies and techniques of outwitting our favored quarry. The conclusion of great and epic adventures is a satisfaction worthy of our efforts and concludes with so many memories to be had, and uplifting experiences in the natural world.

Book Review

A Walk in the Turkey Woods: Wandering Thoughts and Revelations by Mike Joyner is a charming and delightful read that blends whimsical prose and verse with evocative photographs. Divided into small, titled sections, Joyner's writing provides a vivid sense of the turkey woods as a place of communion with oneself and a higher power rather than simply a hunting ground.

Through richly detailed descriptions of the scenery, rituals, and emotions of turkey hunting gatherings, Joyner creates a strong bond with the reader, conveying the depth of his personal connection to the woods and the gratitude he feels for the good health that allows him to enjoy them. Joyner's intimate reflections on life, death, and the passage of time add a profound depth to the narrative, illuminating the precious moments and lessons learned throughout his experiences. Despite being dedicated to Joyner's mother, who has passed away, the book is not solely about the death of a loved one. Rather, death serves as a thematic anchor, reminding Joyner to be grateful for the moments he has lived and inspiring him to maintain a journal of his thoughts and reflections to ensure that none are left unsaid.

A Walk in the Turkey Woods is a charming and intimate work of life-writing. Joyner's verse is unpretentious yet touching, and the photographs, while ordinary, invest the narrative with a poignant sense of continuity and tradition. This book is a compelling entryway into Joyner's thoughts and reflections on life and a reminder of the power of nature to inspire gratitude and reflection.

Great Book!

Gifted this book to my dad for his birthday and boy did he love it! It has the heart warming personal experiences and great information to detail what goes on in traditions such as these. The poems are such a sweet touch, my dad said that it made him really connect and now he is determined to get out there and experience as well!

A Hunter's Meditations

I am not a hunter but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love nature and the author skillfully takes readers into the woods with him for hunting and other experiences. He clearly loves the natural world. His stories weren't violent and it was clear that killing for the sake of killing is not his way. Most of us eat meat and don't think much about what it takes to get it onto our tables. It moved me to tears when Joyner's narrative touched on how much he loved and missed his mother. The parts of the text that were written in verse were very moving, too. He also reflects on death and his future absence in his sacred places. I'm glad I came across this book - it was a wonderful surprise.

Wonderful writer

Mike is a wonderful writer - I've enjoyed several of his books now. He has a true writing talent. The subject itself is one that I've been interested in, although never participated in. The many photos bring the book to life, and you really feel like you're there with him in the woods. A good read.

Well-written and photographed reflections

I recently finished reading “A Walk in the Turkey Woods” and I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed with this collection of musings and reflections. The author takes us on a journey through the great forests of North America and shares with us personal stories, poems, and moments of profound introspection. The book is well-written and thought-provoking, leaving the reader feeling inspired and optimistic.

One of the things I found most unique about this book was the intimate and candid sharing of the author's personal revelations while hunting. It's not just about the act of downing quarry, but about the connection to nature and the many life lessons learned while wandering through the woods. This is a refreshing change from typical hunting stories and instructional guides.

One of my favorite excerpts from the book is when the author talks about the days of silent interludes, brief remissions between the opening show and the main act that one connects with their maker, mother nature, and the quarry which, although is the stated goal, is a purposeful deception. It's in this deception that we find ourselves and make great discoveries of the most useful life-changing observations. The author's words are deep and thought-provoking, and I found myself thinking about them long after I finished reading.

I appreciate that the author is honest about his experiences and doesn't try to present himself as an elitist. He shares his thoughts and observations from many years spent hunting, and the book is filled with nostalgic and pensive reflections on the past, present, and future.

Hunting is a tradition

There's no other way to say it. It's a tradition that is passed from generation to generation. Millennia ago, the first humans were hunting to survive. Today, we echo their memories. A Walk in the Turkey Woods reminds me of my own hunting experiences. The author really hits the nail on the head when he says the hunting experience culminates in the meal at the dinner table. Thank you for putting this on Kindle Unlimited and making it accessible for more people!

Walks in the woods can be a time for deep thoughts and worldly revelations

I can identify with much of what the author discusses because I too have done some of my best thinking and imagining while walking through the woods. This book captures a lot of the thoughts and feelings that happen while alone in nature. It's a great collection.

An unexpected page turner. - just lovely.

A beautiful, intimate look at the Author’s life in the Turkey Woods. How he came to love turkey hunting and the places he discovered while doing it. His approach to just being real and making the most of your moments is so healthy and simplified; it resonated. Such a happy unveiling of self-discovery – I smiled all the way through. Highly Recommend

The author's love for the natural world is evident in every word of this book. Through his eyes, we see the grandeur of the forests, the majesty of the turkeys, and the thrill of the hunt. But more than that, we see the spiritual connection between the hunter and the hunted, and the deep respect for all of God's creatures that lies at the heart of the hunting experience. While the book is centered on turkey hunting, the themes and insights that are shared here are universal. The author's reflections on life, nature, and the human experience will resonate with anyone who has spent time in the great outdoors, whether as a hunter or not.

An Enchanting Stroll Through the Turkey Woods

As a nature lover and an avid reader, "A Walk in the Turkey Woods" by Mike Joyner truly captured my heart. The author's passion for the outdoors and his knowledge of the forest creatures shone through his beautifully descriptive writing.

What I loved most about this book was the author's appreciation for the simple things in life. He reminds us to take pleasure in the awakening of the forests, the warming winds of spring, and the familiar creatures of the forest. His words are a powerful reminder to slow down and appreciate the beauty of nature that surrounds us.

As I read through the pages, I was struck by the author's wisdom and acceptance of aging. Instead of fretting about getting older, he embraces it and seeks affirmation of his desires. It's a refreshing perspective that I found myself pondering long after I finished the book.

"A Walk in the Turkey Woods" is a beautifully written and insightful book that will leave you feeling inspired and connected to nature. Whether you're an experienced turkey hunter or simply a lover of the outdoors, this book is a good-read.

Reflections of a hunter, son, and nature lover

I liked this book AND I am not a hunter at all. I could relate to the authors appreciation of nature and surrounding oneself in it. I also enjoyed his deep reflection on relationships. Specifically his relationship to nature, himself, and his mother.

Author Interview

Question: This is your fifth book, a continuation of turkey hunting stories from your first three titles?

Author: It is turkey themed, very much so, it is a very different offering from the other books.

Question: What can readers of your other books expect to find different in this one?

Author: It is a collection of personal writings, many of which were written while waiting for the first gobbles of the morning, some while in camp, reflecting on many hunts and gathering my thoughts. There is some poetry, which I haven’t indulged in all that much, a love poem of sorts to my wife, I’ll let me readers guess which it is. There is also a turkey hunter’s prayer and a chapter on last wishes that I shared to give others pause to ponder it for themselves.

Question: What motivated you to write it?

Author: I had been writing some of these musings as the inspiration strikes me to capture them. There is much more to the experience of the turkey woods than just the chase, the battles, the victories and defeats. My efforts was to share the wonderment and reflections that accompanies these great experiences. p>

Question: How long did it take to the write the book? You did the book design as you did for the others?

Author: The book is a collection of writings over many years, with only a concentrated effort to format and organize them in book format. As I m always taking pictures afield, it was a matter of choosing the right ones for the project. As with my other titles I did both the interior formatting and cover design.

Question: What can we expect next?

Author: I have many other book projects in various stages of completion. D.D. Adams, and Empire Limb Hangers are the next releases

Question: What offerings will there be, and where can they be purchased?

Author: The book is out in trade paperback. hardcover, kindle, and the audiobook will be released in May. The book in each offering is available online at amazon.com.
