One of the promises of the indie-publishing revolution is access to one another. To meet, if only digitally, with all kinds of people, ones you’d never encounter otherwise. This book—Random Musings—offers just such an opportunity. I’ve never gone hunting, or fired a gun, or pursued a conservative agenda, and it benefits me to share the perspective of an impassioned, articulate spokesman.

I’d like to think he’d regard my own views as worthy of perusal, but if the book has one flaw, it’s a tendency to stray into a vindictive, Us vs. Them mentality. Yes, there are idiots on both sides of any debate, and many liberals make perfect targets, but it’s almost like there are two Joyners, one a compassionate humanist, and one eager to mine his mean streak. I look forward to the day we can share a few cold ones, and even agree to disagree, but do so with the wisdom and humor he’s so obviously capable of.
